Re-imagining Our Relationship with Materials

How did so many materials come to be around us?

The importance of materials has been historically vital for civilisations and their development.

What is Design-led approach to developing new materials? How is this different to the past?

The design-led is a strategy and process for solving problems. This approach allows ideas to be tested before being fully formed or developed. Nowadays, the use of advance equipment and techniques are used to analyse how materials behave in a condition to implement the real world environment. This allows scientist to develop and improve new materials with the results gathered from experiments. Consequently, materials from the past can ultimately be viewed as different then now. During the Bronze Age, copper used for pipes and waterways has thankfully phased behind due to the copper containing poisonous arsenic. Overall, the development of materials has changed dramatically back then and now.

What is exciting about materials that are currently being developed? What is new with this structure approach?

Materials being currently developed is breathe taking to know that it could possibly be used in future architectural designs. This shows that the development of modern materials are no longer limited. The development of being creative with new materials will definitely opens up new possibilities for civilisation.

phased out: to not be published or further continued.

brittle: hard or difficult to break or destroyed.

potentially: possibility happen in the future.

Metamaterials: a material engineered to have a feature that is not found in natural materials.

orientation: the way it looks or appears.
