COVID 19 Engineering

A team of engineers from New South Wales are using 3D printers to produce face shields for frontline workers, battling to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. These engineers expects to be able to produce 2,000 shields a day, which progressed from hundreds per day. Me3D co-founder, engineer Matthew Connelly usually created 3D printers for schools. However, with schools shut down there were lots of stock left over. He states “quite a lot of stock left over, so one of the things we are doing with it is taking it out of storage and manufacturing some critical PPE for nurses and doctors. (PPE stands for personal protective equipment)

However, other people can also participate in helping, where there is a online community which connects people who are determined to assist in fighting against the pandemic. Connecting members including “programmers, engineers, owners of 3D printers and nurses.” Coming together to build medical equipment to save lives and healthcare systems.

While there are ongoing participates producing 3D medical equipment, companies such as Apple and Google have teamed up to help the government and health agencies reduce the spread of the virus. They have enable bluetooth on technologies such as phones to track the location of an individual. While, some people may believe this is great idea few may believe it is the exposure of privacy.
