RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM

Laughing Kookaburra
Guest speaker, Candice talks about how nest boxes are built and the reason why. Nest boxes are being built currently due to the bush fires. The materials needed to build a nest box are heavy wood, metal hinges and camouflage paint. She also talks about how the nest boxes should be built with the best quality and not relying on the quantity so that they will last longer. If the nest boxes is built to perfection it should last up to 30 years. These nest boxes are installed professionally with pulley systems.
Nest boxes are built specifically for certain species, for example Laughing Kookaburra. The Laughing Kookaburra is known for their feathers and voice. The sound that they make is described as a chuckle. Generally that appear to look off-white below, faintly barred with dark brown, and brown on their back and wings. Laughing Kookaburras are located in most areas where there are suitable trees and food. They feed on insects, worms and crustaceans and require a tall perch where they are able to view the ground to catch their prey.
However for the STEM project, we will be creating a sugar glider nest box.
